2012: Mayan Year 2012 Stirs Apocalypse Predictions, Doomsayers

2012: Mayan Year 2012 Stirs Apocalypse Predictions, Doomsayers

Much has been and is being written concerning this date (you can hear the cash registers now). Hollywood is of course in lock step because it will help to sell tickets to movies. This is already the Y2K scare for the next several years. It should be no surprise as 'fear' always sells; (global warming, which occurs with some frequency, Y2K or the 'fear' of going to hell for having a lustful thought, etc.) The world's consciousness is changing and that may be the tell-tale sign, going from a Western mentality to an Eastern, more philosophical way of thinking. It may leave places like Europe and North America (specifically the US), in what may feel like a complete game changer but, as indicated in previous comments, there are dates that exist after the 2012 (Gregorian) date, so have we simply built up a ‘commercial’ fear?

In fact, 2012 is a Western concept, i.e., the Julian calendar that was adopted (in the Old World, not the New) was superseded by the Gregorian calendar in Europe with England and its colonies, (America included) adopting its usage in 1752 and causing our calendar to "lose" twelve days - so, from that aspect, is the 12/21/12 date correct? Additionally, there are many calendars in use today, so which one is ‘right?

We have also seen many incidents occurring wherein people (those with some influence or those that squawk the loudest), wish to utilize to extend the 'doomsday' claim. However, we see many of these same events (natural) have occurred throughout history. (As far as man’s inclusion in catastrophe, {which includes assisting in some of the ‘natural’ disasters}, unfortunately, that may not come to a grinding halt any time soon). It is through the benefit (?) of cable news the internet, etc., that these 'incidents' seem to be more prevalent. Years ago we were 'lucky' if there was an eyewitness to an incident and even rarer should they have had the means with which to record the event. Nowadays with cell phone cameras, the ubiquitous compact digital camera or security camera, the likelihood of something occurring with an eyewitness has increased ten-fold.
Personally, I think it will be refreshing to have a 'new' start (reboot) to the mind-set of this world. We will need it if we are to survive no matter what.
